Oban Memorial Event with Butterfly Release
Saturday 30 May 2026, 12-2pm
We warmly invite you to join us for our Oban Memorial Event with Butterfly Release on:
Saturday 30 May 2026
12.00pm – 2.00pm
(Please arrive from 11.30am)
Dunollie Museum, Castle and Grounds, Oban
This special gathering offers families bereaved through the death of a baby, child, or young person a compassionate space to come together in shared understanding, remembrance, and love.
Each year, this event becomes a gentle circle of connection ~ a place where names are spoken, stories are shared, and every emotion is welcomed. Whether your loss was recent or many years ago, you are warmly invited to stand alongside other families who truly understand.
Please complete the form below to register and order your butterfly.
The Memorial Tent
On arrival from 11.30am, you will be welcomed to our Memorial Tent, a quiet space for reflection and connection. Here, you are invited to pin a photograph of your child or a message for them to our remembrance tree and share their name, and as much or as little of their story as you wish, with our trained volunteers and other families. It is a place of empathy, warmth, and community.
The Butterfly Release
During the service, each family will receive a live butterfly (or butterflies) to release in memory of their loved one.
Our butterflies are lovingly bred in sterile conditions by Angelina, an award-winning entomologist, and cared for by the specialist team at Butterflies for All Occasions in the New Forest from the moment they are eggs. These delicate yet resilient creatures have long symbolised remembrance, transformation, hope, and enduring love.
When the time comes, your butterfly will be gently woken by the warmth of your hands before taking flight ~ carrying with it your love, your memories, and the name of your precious child.
After the Release
Following the butterfly release, we invite you to stay for refreshments, a craft, and quiet fellowship. Many families tell us this time together, sharing conversation, tears, and even gentle smiles, is one of the most meaningful parts of the day.
Since 2013, when our founders first hosted a memorial event with a butterfly release, these gatherings have become a cornerstone of the support we offer ~ a living expression of our promise that no bereaved family should ever feel alone.
We would be honoured to share this poignant and beautiful day with you.
With love,
Anam Cara Fasgadh 🦋
Each year it costs between £800 to £1,000 to host this beautiful event.
Mindful of the ever rising cost of living, in 2026 the charity Directors are aiming to run this event at no cost to our guests.
