Our Children Remembered
For a bereaved parent or grandparent, one of the most challenging tasks is preserving the memory of their child.
We feel privileged that each family staying at Poppy's Place or Gabriel’s Oasis, or participating in our memorial events, shares their child's story with us.
In 2025 we chose to adorn our decking with butterflies, each bearing the names and dates significant to our children. In 2026, with Poppy’s Place moving, and due to our butterflies suffering a lot of weathering, we realised we were going to have to refurbish them. Through our incredible partnership with Oban High School, students are now working hard on refurbishing the 70 we had already placed, and engrave the 19 new ones.
We are also exploring a new home for our butterflies, one that is open to the public.
Whether you've been our guest at Poppy's Place or plan to visit Gabriel’s Oasis in the future, or if you would just like us to honour your child’s memory, we welcome you to contribute your child's name and meaningful dates. In doing so, we will honour your child with a dedicated butterfly placed.
Each of our original butterflies was lovingly engraved by our friend and supporter Diarmid MacMillan, who has supported the charity since it’s foundation.
