Sutherland’s Grove

Located in the neighbouring village to the north, Barcaldne, this forest is named after Sir John Donald Sutherland, Assistant Commissioner for Scotland 1919-34 and Commissioner 1934-42. Some of the Douglas firs reach 50m in height, the oldest of which was planted in 1870. There are trails to suit all fitness levels.

Beinn Lora

Starting off beside Le3wis’s Garage in the heart of the village, a walk up Beinn Lora on a clear day will give you panoramic views over the coast and islands, and back down Loch Etive to the Ben Cruachan range, These trails are also very popular with local hill runners looking for a strenuous workout.

Ben Lora Cafe and Bookshop sits in the heart of the village. From April to October it is open Wednesday to Sunday from 10am to 4pm and serves a breakfast and lunch menu.

Lady Margaret’s Tower

Lady Margaret's Tower on Lochnell Estate can be reached via a good wee trek past the walled garden at Lochnell Castle. ,The views on both sides of the peninsula are fabulous. The building which was erected in 1754, likely as a way to give work to local men who found life hard after the 1745 Jacobite rising and subsequent Culloden battle.
